FIXING MODELS IN SIMPLIFY 3D8/5/2023 Anybody have a recommendation in that regard?Įdit: SolidWorks has a "defeature" tool, but it is not robust enough for our needs (apparently it totally chokes.)Įdit 2: Having a high poly count outer shell would be acceptable, if we could just auto-delete all internal features.Įdit 3 / What we ended up doing: We were able to reduce the file considerably using SolidWorks' built in feature for "save external faces" (a checkbox on the save dialog). I am guessing that in the video game industry, folks already have tools to make this job easier. The purpose of the simplification is twofold: The first is to reduce the geometry down for faster photo-realistic rendering, as well as being able to navigate in real-time using the Unreal engine, and the second is to remove the innards to protect intellectual property when sending such drawings to 3rd parties. I need to simplify them down to only the outer features (Imagine just the car body, tires, and undercarriage). I have some extremely complex 3D SolidWorks files (Imagine a car, with the engine, wires, fuel lines, etc.
